Now I'm no pro mind you, heck I'm barely an amateur but what I personify is the every man of golf. I am a middle of the road handicapper. I have had my fair share of low scores and I have had my Hindenburg's, either way, I thoroughly enjoy myself. But that wasn't always the case. I wasn't always the happy go lucky slice hound (it's a fade!) you find now strolling the fairways with a song in his heart and a provisional ball in his hand. No sirree Bob. When I started playing this game as a young boy on the verge of manhood I was just about the most frustratingly impatient cuss ever to tee up a Top-Flite golf rock. The resulting anger teamed with my overly competitive nature made for a perfect storm of really bad golf. Then, in my mid twenties, a light bulb came on in the clubhouse of my mind and I realized the secret to a better golf game. I stink. The key was actually coming to grips (pun intended) with the fact that I was a terrible golfer. Once I accepted that I couldn't do certain things, I started to focus on my strengths and forgot about my weaknesses. Once I became comfortable with my newly realized terribleness, I shaved ten strokes off my game. I eventually went from a less than stellar 25 handicapper to a solid 16 handicapper. I was regularly shooting in the eighties and really enjoying all of my sojourns to the golf course, even when they involved numerous walks in the woods and trips to the beach. The bottom line is this, the rules of golf state that a player may only carry up to 14 clubs in their bag. So do yourself a favor, every time you pull your golf bag out at the start of a round, check your clubs and make sure you always remove that stroke costing 15th club: Anger. You'll feel better and you'll thank me later, hopefully at the 19th hole.
